Matilda Bishop in 1901 lived at 3 New York Place, Chorlton-Upon-Medlock, Manchester. Number 5 was the birthplace of David Lloyd George (17 January 1863 – 26 March 1945) British prime minister (1916–22)

L.S.Lowry did a painting of the house.

In June 1957 the house was demolished along with the rest of the street.
